What he posted on his Facebook page says, "This is Rosemary Njoku. I just met Rosemary at
the Facebook Express Wi-Fi stand she runs in
Lagos.
Express Wi-Fi empowers entrepreneurs to build a
business by providing their community with
access to the internet.
Facebook designed the
technology, and local internet providers add the
connectivity. Express Wi-Fi is part of our
Internet.org initiative.
Rosemary already had a business before she
also started selling Express Wi-Fi as well, but
she told me she now has 3,000 customers and
makes much more money from Express Wi-Fi.
She's a great example of how local
entrepreneurs spread internet access around the
world.
This week, we're launching a satellite into space
to enable more entrepreneurs across Africa to
sell Express Wi-Fi and more people to access
reliable internet. That means more connectivity
and more opportunity for entrepreneurs like
Rosemary everywhere.
Well The Next Richest Man in the world took some time off Silicon Valley to have great vacation with his wife. Mark was in Rome with his wife, Priscilla, until a few hours ago (according to his Facebook page). He held a Q&A session, visited the Pope and did a few “touristy” things.
Next stop: Lagos! This is my first trip to sub-
Saharan Africa. I'll be meeting with developers
and entrepreneurs, and learning about the startup
ecosystem in Nigeria. The energy here is
amazing and I'm excited to learn as much as I
can.
Our first stop is the Co-creation Hub Nigeria
(CcHUB) in Yaba. I got to talk to kids at a
summer coding camp and entrepreneurs who
come to CcHub to build and launch their apps.
I'm looking forward to meeting more people here!"
The unannounced Visit to Nigeria.
Nigeria is the next Silicon Valley and soon the same way Nigeria is exporting the Gospel of Jesus which was once imported to us, will soon be exporting tech solutions to the world. Don't forget that I made this statement.
There’s been a lot of Facebook-related development in Nigeria so there’s a ton of reasons why Mark visited. First, remember his post on FREE WLAN and Jobberman? Free basics launched in Nigeria and Mark showed his support for the Jobberman team. Then the Chan-Zuckerberg Initiative invested $24 million in Andela. Facebook’s developer workshop is happening tomorrow, and yesterday, we reported that Facebook is partnering with Cool Link to launch Express WLAN in Lagos some time this week.
Mark is here to take advantage of all the developments in Tech and see a way to get details first hand. – Some key Business he took interest in include visit Jobberman, the Andela team he’s invested in, attend the developer workshop, launch Express WLAN AND have policy-centred conversations with the Nigerian government to further Facebook’s cause. Should I say Up Mark or Up Facebook!
Again, where are you now in the scheme of technology? Where will you be few years from now when the soup will be fully cooked? Youth Leaders and especially Student Leaders. I encourage you to take your visions and goals very seriously. If you do not have digital skills or not trying to gain knowledge of one quickly then you are not progressing.
All (Youth) hands are on deck home and abroad to move Africa and Nigeria to the continent and country (respectively) of our dreams. It will happen *with or without you and me* The best we can do is improve our selves daily and support the cause instead of being part of the problem. Take YouthsLead seriously and join hands to invite all Youths to come onboard this ship.
