The concept of digital marketing can be splitted into different parts but the reason for marketing digitally is to promote or create awareness.
Blog, articles, email marketing including SEO and social media are the target tools for digital marketing.
I would like to hit the nail on the head by further explaining the effective ways of reaching your
targeted audience especially with social media
most used platforms.
Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Whatsapp are
the most used social media platforms around the
world especially Nigerian. And am going to
explain the use of HASHTAG on TWITTER.
Sometimes I come across twitter users who
don’t know what the platform is all about neither
how it works, some see it as another top social
platform for sharing events and personal photos
while others think it’s for advertisement but the
problem is HOW DOES IT WORK.
Why is everybody talking about Facebook and
saying little about Twitter?
What is tweet and retweet? ____ What is
Hashtag?
A little definition of Hashtag would do. Let’s talk
about TWITTER HASHTAG.
A hashtag is a type of label or metadata tag
used on social network and microblogging
services which makes it easier for users to find
messages with a specific theme or content.
Users create and use hashtags by placing the
hash character (#) in front of a word or
unspaced phrase, either in the main text of a
message or at the end. Searching for that
hashtag will yield each message that has been
tagged with it. ( Wikipedia)
Hashtag allow users to easily find what they are
looking for either a picture or an article on the
internet regardless the searching from a website.
Over the course of one second, just one little
blink of the eye, 143,000 new tweets hit the
airwaves. Twitter considers that to be a pretty
big number. Who wouldn’t? But it makes you
wonder—how can anything make an impression
with all that activity?
Actually, it’s easier than you think: Just learn
how to use hashtags.
And I mean really use them. Hashtags serve a lot
of purposes, but down at the very core what they
do is chop Twitter into smaller, more manageable
pieces. If you think of Twitter like a giant lake, a
hash tagged topic is that little area roped off for
swimmers. There may be thousands of different
swimming areas, but if you jump into one, you
can splash everybody in your little section
instead of barely making a ripple in the scope of
the entire lake. You’re a big fish in a little pond,
to coin a phrase.
For a more literal example, say ten thousand
people tweet at the same time, but only a
hundred of them use a particular hashtag.
Suddenly, each of those users is a LOT more
visible in regards to a specific topic.
HERE ARE 5 TIPS THAT WILL GET YOU
HASHTAGGING LIKE AN OLD PRO IN NO TIME
AT ALL.
1- Research Your Hashtags Research is a huge
step in any social media platform, but way too
many people skip it. Find the right category for
your business (or service, or area of interest,
etc.), and work with hashtags that already have
a following. As you get more followers it’ll be
easier to start a hashtag trend of your own, but
if you’re starting out it makes much more sense
to join a conversation that already exists.
2- Shorter Is Better
Hashtags are written without any spaces, so it
can get confusing pretty fast if you have more
than three words in a single hashtag. It also cuts
into your character count—the main focus of
every tweet should still be the content. Shorter
hashtags leave more room to, you know, actually
say something like. #

3- Capitalize Every Word
Some hashtags just have to be longer, which is
why it’s a good habit to capitalize every word in
the tag. While Twitter’s search engine will pull up
your tag whether it’s capitalized or not, your
actual tweet ends up looking like a jumbled
mess. So instead of saying #
heylookabunnyrabbit, make it #
HeyLookABunnyRabbit. It’s cleaner, more
noticeable, and much more reader friendly (and if
you follow step 2 that should really just be #
BunnyRabbit).
4- Put Hashtags At The End
One of the more common trends with hashtags
is to use a tag in replace of an actual word. Now,
that works in some cases, but it comes back to
the readability of the tweet, so use your
judgment.
“Hey #Berny, where is the best place to eat #
Indomie noodles?” is ok, as is “Hey Berny, where
is the best place to eat Indomie noodles? #Berny
#Indomie”
When it goes wrong: “Hey #Berny where is the #
best #place to #eat #indomie #noodles?”
In nearly every (professional) instance, the
emphasis of the tweet should be the actual
message. Hashtags serve the purpose of
categorizing that message, but they aren’t THE
message. More often than not, scattering
hashtags throughout the tweet will result in
tweaking the message to fit the hashtags, when
it should be the other way around. Leave your
hashtags at the end when they are cluttering the
message.
5- Hashtag Your Events
When you have an event, for example, a webinar
or conference, you can create a hashtag
specifically for that event. Let your followers
know about it before the event takes place, then
give real-time updates using the hashtag to
categorize those tweets. If anybody comes in
late, they can search your hashtag to catch up
on all the tweets and content they missed.
People attending your event, webinar,
presentation etc can use the hashtag to share
things they learn or hear, spreading the viral
message you are sharing.
If these simple steps are followed with proper
arrangement then results would be 100%
achieved. There are many ways to get traffic or
create awareness and social media is the
primary stage to start up.
Digital marketing wouldn’t be effective without
you knowing the little things that work wonders.
